Tuvan State University is the only State University in the Republic of Tuva. Our University is a part of the Siberian Federal region, which is a part of the East Siberian economic area. It borders on different Russian Federation regions such as the Republic of Altai, the Republic of Khakassia, Krasnoyarsk region, Irkutsk oblast, the Republic of Buryatia. The border with Mongolia is the state border of the Russian Federation. The Republic of Tyva is located in the geographical center of Asia in the south of Eastern Siberia, in the upper riverheads of the Yenisei. Tuva is a mountainous region where mountain ranges and intermountain basins alternate. About 80% of the territory of the Republic is occupied by mountains, and only the remaining part of it is plain steppe areas.
The geographical center of Asia is located in the capital of the Republic of Tuva, which is called Kyzyl. There are the most picturesque places here. Mountains covered with various types of vegetation have all the chemical elements of the periodic system of D. I. Mendeleev. There are more than 430 lakes on the territory of the Republic, most of them are of glacial origin. There are also 13 salt lakes and more than 50 healing springs, the waters of which are successfully used for the treatment and cure of various diseases and illnesses. The Republic is rich in underground and mineral waters of various groups, such as carbon dioxide (cold and thermal), siliceous thermal, radon, sulfide, acid ferruginous and without specific components. The history of this fertile mountain region is filled with unique events. Numerous archaeological sites keep the culture of the peoples who used to live in the territory of this mountainous country in various historical periods. There are different things and items of use of the primitive era, the burial mounds of the Scythians, Turks, Sarmatians, and Huns who ploughed through Tuva during their great migrations are found in the river valleys. Nowadays the culture of the people who inhabit these places is original and unique. The University is the center of science, culture and education of the Republic of Tuva, which is inhabited by Russians, Tuvans and representatives of other nationalities.
The educational process at the University is carried out by full-time, full-part-time and part-time forms of education. There are different traditional forms of training such as lectures, seminars, practical and laboratory classes, as well as new ones which are widely introduced, for example, business and role-playing games, round tables, webinars and video seminars, discussions, etc.
The curriculum also provides the independent work for students. The amount of this activity is about 50% (on average) of the total number of classes. In addition to the classroom classes, it is carried out through the preparation of reports and workouts, abstracts, term papers and projects, control works, writing articles and abstracts, etc.
Practice is carried out through workshops, laboratory and practical classes, various types of educational practice such as archaeological, dialectological, field (in Zoology, Botany, Soil Studies, Plant Protection, Geology, etc.), practice in the Museum, folklore practice and an introductory one.
Different researches have been organized in the following areas: development of a system of specially protected natural territories of the Republic of Tyva, as well as additional education programs. The University trains mathematicians, physicists, biologists, chemists, geographers, historians, philologists (in the Russian language and literature, the Tuvan language and literature, English, French and German), region specialists, document scientists, economists, lawyers, accountants, agronomists, veterinarians, psychologists and teachers. Additional educational professional programs in education, law, foreign language are also implemented.
The University has structural departments which are basic for carrying out various industrial and educational practices of students, research and business activities, for example, the Botanical garden, veterinary clinic, scientific laboratories "Herbarium", "Genetics", vivarium, SPC "Silicate". There are museums: local history, Zoological, educational, environmental and literary, Republican research chemical and environmental laboratory, educational and sports base on lake Chagytay, etc.
The University publishing department publishes educational and scientific works of teachers, postgraduates and students.
The University sports club has a rich tradition and has trained a large number of famous athletes, instructors and guides in the field of eco-tourism. Moreover, rescue service specialists are actively working. University teams are successfully functioning, and there are 11 student teams: two teams for builders, as well as, rescue, tourist, pedagogical, volunteer, environmental, agricultural, archaeological, service and law enforcement teams.
The computer base of the University is constantly updated and improved. Students, postgraduates and teachers have the opportunity to share and exchange information with the other universities in Russia and in the world on the Internet. A lot of work is being done to create an electronic catalogue of the University library.
The University is a dynamically developing University today that adapts to modern socio-economic and socio-political conditions. It plays an increasingly active integration role in the regional, Federal and international educational space. It also cooperates and colloborates with many universities and research institutions in Russia, Europe, Asia and America.
